The answer to: What is DDR & explain DDR Memory
Double data rate SDRAM also called DDR (1) SDRAM was first produced nearly 10 years ago. DDR RAM memory modules was based on the same architecture as very old SDRAM but it doubled the date transfer rates, thus twice or double the data rate or DDR. PIN configuration form factors are: 184-PIN and 144-PIN with other OEM specific proprietary DDR ram modules. DDR RAM is visually differentiated from SDRAM in that SDRAM is a 168-pin DIMM with a double notch at the bottom along the pins one notch just off-center, the other offside. The 184-pin DDR SDRAM has a single off-center notch.
DDR (1) memory module upgrades types:
- DDR memory module upgrade speeds: PC3200, DDR400 (400MHz), PC2700, DDR333 (333MHz), PC2100, DDR266 (266MHz)
- DDR memory module PIN configurations are: 184-PIN and 200-PIN with some proprietary exceptions.
- DDR memory module types are: Unbuffered, unregistered or "long DIMMs", SODIMM, SO-DIMM, small outline dual inline memory modules or "short DIMMs" and Registered, "ECC Reg" memory DIMMs.
